Why does my chicken keep pecking the other?

I only got them yesterday bit I've noticed that the smaller one seems a bit frightened of the bigger one and I don't blame her cos the bigger one has pecked and chased her a few times now (the bigger one is only a little bit bigger). I'm assuming this is part of the "pecking order" but will they settle down and how long will it take?
